An interval type of physical training that involves moderate intensity exercise alternated with rest periods is highly effective in conditioning the cardiovascular system while increasing muscle strength. Active rest between moderate intensity work allows the heart rate to drop, giving the participant the opportunity to recover before the next high intensity interval. These types of workouts can include a mix of cardio exercises with resistance training.
